I've been very casually doing embroidery for a few years now! Everything I do is completely free-handed, although for text I've started to do "guiding lines" where I do one huge stitch so that the text isn't at an angle. I'm also including some things that I would classify more as applique- like adding felt letters to sweatshirts.
